Outside hitter Suvi Kokkonen was voted Player of the Season in the Finnish women’s volleyball league by readers of the volleyball magazine Lentopallo.info.
Kokkonen, the 19-year-old representing Hämeenlinnan Lentopallokerho, gathered a landslide 61.2 per cent of the votes cast in the outside hitters category.
In the poll, the best players by position were Kokkonen (outside hitter), Jennifer Nogueras (setter), Kertu Laak (opposite), Anna Czakan (middle blocker), and Hillaelina Hämäläinen (libero).
Kokkonen keeps it no secret her goal is to sign a contract with an international club.
– I feel playing abroad is pretty close for me, even next season is possible, says Kokkonen.
– Although I’ve played as an opposite occasionally, outside hitter is my best position. Internationally, Germany and France are good options. And later on, I’d like to play in even bigger countries and clubs.
During the season, Kokkonen also played in the Champions League and got the chance to challenge the likes of Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and Dinamo Kazan. She is a member of the Finnish national team.
In the Lentopallo.info poll, 2 285 votes were cast.
